General introduction of Aluminum PCB

The aluminum substrate is a metal-based copper-clad plate with good heat dissipation function. Generally, the single-sided board is composed of a three-layer structure, which is a circuit layer (copper foil), an insulating layer, and a metal base layer. Aluminum substrates are rarely made into double-sided circuit boards, and double-sided circuit boards will affect its heat dissipation and other functions. Aluminum substrates are commonly used in LED lighting, such as: industrial led light boards, automotive car light boards, medical surgery LED light boards, display screen led light boards and so on. The aluminum substrate has both front and back sides. Usually the back side is unpackaged and presents the true color of aluminum. On the other side, the white side is soldered to the LED pins. Generally, the thermally conductive paste is applied to the thermally conductive part after contact. There are ceramic substrates and so on.

Structure of aluminum substrate

Copper foil circuit layer
The copper foil circuit layer (generally using electrolytic copper foil) is etched to form a printed circuit, which is used to assemble and connect components. Compared with the traditional FR-4, with the same thickness and the same line width, the aluminum-based PCB can carry higher current.

Dielectric layer
Dielectric layer is the core technology of aluminum-based PCB, which mainly plays the role of bonding, insulation and heat conduction. The aluminum substrate insulation layer is the largest thermal barrier in the power module structure. The better the thermal conductivity of the insulation layer, the more beneficial it is for the diffusion of heat generated during the operation of the component, thereby reducing the operating temperature of the component, so as to increase the power load of the module, reduce the volume, extend the service life of the product, and increase the power output. purpose.

Metal base
The metal base layer is a supporting member of the aluminum substrate, which requires high thermal conductivity. Generally, it is an aluminum plate, or a copper plate can also be used (the copper plate can provide better thermal conductivity).

Aluminum substrates are generally stored in a dark and dry environment, and are usually carried in anti-static bags or cotton pads during transportation. Most aluminum substrates are prone to moisture, yellowing and blackening, and are generally used within 48 hours after opening the vacuum packaging .
